Product Details

AN HISTORIC .22 DAYSTATE SPORTSMAN PROTOTYPE MULTI-PUMP PNEUMATIC AIR-RIFLE, serial no. 1,
also known as 'Daystate One' and being the first sporting air-rifle designed by Don Lowndes of Daystate, with blued 18 1/2in. barrel, brass bolt-action receiver hand signed on the left side 'D. LOWNDES' and 'PROTATYPE (sic) No. 1', blued turned down bolt handle, brass pump-housing with blued face-plate and bright alloy end-cap, hardwood pistol-grip butt-stock fitted with a Parker Hale rubber recoil pad, flush fitting pump-handle, the fore-end and handle with single deep finger-groove to both sides and blacked alloy Weihrauch trigger guard, together with a limited edition collector's hardback copy of 'Daystate - Celebrating 40 Years' featuring this air-rifle and many others

Provenance: Don Lowndes started Daystate in 1978, originally producing humane darting guns. He had been traumatised by witnessing a healthy deer being put down after it became distressed and uncontrollable when it got its antlers caught in a carrier bag. Being a deer-farmer himself, he vowed to never let this happen again and produced his own tranquilizer gun. Word soon spread and other people requested similar, culminating with the Daystate Air Rifle Company being registered at Companies House on the 23rd October 1978. The Daystate One prototype was the first sporting air-rifle ever produced by Don, and shares many similarities with the actual production model.

Please Note: Whilst this prototype does function, it is sold as a collector's item only and not intended for serious use
